I actually got my account back!!!
I actually got my account back! Thanks Yahoo!
I probably got a little lucky that I did not put completely bogus info when I registered 8 years ago. But here is the process that I went through. 1. I called the number 1 408 349 1572, opt 2, opt 2 Told them what happened, they tryed to veryfy info on file over the phone, and that failed. They told me to send a blank email with my yahoo id in the subject to the following address (its not the same that came up on here before): account-security-help@cc.yahoo-inc.com 2. Sent an email to that address 3. Recieved a reply asking me to reply to those stupid verification questions, so I did. 4. Recieved a reply to answer more question and fax them to some fax number that they gave me. Among the questions was that I had to describe the account (folders, contacts, notes). So I did write like a long paragraph about it, because I had a lot of different folders and such there. Another thing that they had requested was photo ID. So I faxed that info to them. 5. Recieved an email (to alternative one that I have supplied in fax) with a new password   Now keep in mind that took about a week. Alex |

Hi Mina... I have the same problem. Please contact me if you find a solution. I've called the customer service number... but they were not helpful at all!!! They can't do anything for you if you don't provide them with an answer to the security question.

lost account
I too lost my account on Wed. Right now, as we speak, my id is logged ON in msgr. Until I found this forum, i thought there wouldnt be any hope to regaining my account. I didnt lose anything important, thank goodness. and those who know me really well have my back up email addresses. I thought maybe it was my mean and jealous ex husband hacking my computer, but now that Ive read this forum,,, I can actually let him off the hook.
I have sent the blank email w/ my id in the subject field. I am going to try calling cust support tomorrow, and then on Monday if they are closed tomorrow. i just hope i can remember all the answers to the security questions. I have had this account for 7 years, w/o any changes to it. Bless you once again for providing the info you have!!! you definatly are an ANGEL!!! |
Alex30 do you still have the fax number and questions they asked....
They keep giving me the run around. I recently recieved a virus on my comp and since then I couldnt get back into my account. I could still check through my messenger because i was still logged onto it but once it closed I cant get into anything. And I have all my pictures and stuff saved to this account.. I REALLY REALLY REALLY Need to get back into this account, so I can atleast retrieve my pictures and contacts. Can anyone help? I can be contacted at Mig_eddy@yahoo.com until I can get back into my main account |
I can look up the fax number, but try emailing that address, it does take forever, but at least I got it back.

Ok, let me elaborate of some of the steps. Step 1 is pretty much useless, and only thing that is usefull is the email address. So just send blank email with you Yahoo ID in the subject. Then you would get reply (may take forever though), asking you to answer same stupid 8 question that you don't remember answers to. Then ONLY after I did not answer all the questions correctly, they send me another email, with more questions and asked me to fax answers to them. here is the text of that e-mail. Quote:
Hope this would help, good luck. |
Help!!!
Hi my yahoo email account has just been hacked!! how do i get it back??! can anyone help me?!! please email me if you can at rot_in_pieces27@hotmail.com
|
Hey did u get all ur emails back too?
|
I also got my account back after having my password phished (stupid me). Fortunately, the phisher changed all of the info EXCEPT for my zip code....which was a flag for the customer service rep I spoke with on the phone.
Be VERY polite to the CSR on the phone...they have the power to give you your account back, but they won't unless you can somehow prove that it belonged to you in the first place. The CSR implied that if the hacker had changed my zip code, I would have been SOL. He also said that my account was established before a "secret question" was required. He suggested that I create a secret question so I could easily restore my acct if it was stolen again. I still haven't figured out where to do that - can anyone help on this? |

I thought something similar happened to my account! I'm still not sure if I was phished or if I changed my info. after believing that I had been phished. This has been such a headache and all could have been avoided had Yahoo responded to my inquiry about what I believed to be a "spoof page." Well, if all else fails, I'm gonna have to call up an old friend/PC mastermind to hack my account. I need my stuff! |
I'm still in the process of hearing from Yahoo after I refaxed them my info. I recently sent another email asking if they have the info and to let me know if they were able to get a new password or not for me. When my account was taken over, the Yahoo page was in spanish or some foreign language. When I see it now, its back in English, so I hope this is a good sign.

Thanks Alex,
It appears that you and I have/had the same problems, also it appears that we both did the same thing in posting bogus personal information about ourselves. I've had my Yahoo account for approx. 10 yrs and have never changed my password, suddenly when I tried to logon my password was rejected...that was over a week ago and of course the emails are piling up in my mailbox. I still cannot gain access to my yahoo account because it will not recognize my password. Like so many of you, I have tried to contact Yahoo about this problem but to no avail. I keep getting the computer generated response advising me to do this or that.
I lookws high and low for a phone number on Yahoo's website but there isn't one....at least there isn't one that i can find. I will attempt to call them and see if I can get my account back. Laurence |
Hey savage, what number did you call when you gave your zip code?

Well calling yahoo, has been little help. I've been pestering them with emails even after they had said they can't do anything and that they apologized for the inconvenience. So then I decided it was a hopeless case and hopefully no one was accessing it. Well on September 24, 2005, I had signed on in invisible on Yahoo! Messenger and saw my old account had been signed into!!! That totally freaked me out. I kept text messaging the person to ask for my account back, but it was to no avail - the person under my name and yahoo id just ignored me. It's got years of private information that I need back. It's been almost two months now since I've lost access. I'm hoping yahoo can help me out as they have done for others based on what I've read from other's postings. The process is just so grueling. I'll keep you posted on whether I have received my account back. |

Fax number for Yahoo Doesnt work
Hi guys-
I am joing this forum because I too had problem accessing my account. It all started one night when I was trying to retrieve my Instant Messenger username and password. I thought I had forgotten my Yahoo IM password so I requested a new one be sent to my e-mail when I didn't see it after a few minutes in my e-mail I closed my window and tried to re-open it when I tried to do this it said my password and ID were wrong. Which confused me because I NEVER lost my password for my e-mail or lost it. However my solution to this was to just get a new password. But I had forgotten that I hadn't updated my registration information and therefore my alternative e-mail was invalid and I also had forgotten the answer to my "secret question" and as you know Yahoo! won't give you any help unless you answer that damn question. SO I thought I am screwed. Then I found Alex30 had posted a fax number and so I wrote a letter copied my Driver license and gave a good description of my Account that would make it unique to me. But now that I have done that I tried to fax the thing and it doesn't WORK it just rings and rings until it hangs up on you. Then I tried to call the phone number and all I got was someones private Voicemail. I am at my wits end. To top it all of now taht I have had heard from others and their frustrations I am now considering that maybe someone "phised" me or " Spoofed me" and changed my info. and is trying to steal my ID. So if someone else can provide a Fax number for yahoo! Customer Account Recovery team PLEASE E-mail me or post on here. I will be checking this too see if anyone has an ideas as to what I should do. Thanks, Another Alex  |

The number in the post earlier is a valid number 1-408-349-1572. Wait until it's gone through the initial 'thank you for calling Yahoo' stuff, then hit #2, in the next menu it's #2. That will get you a human being. I spoke with a woman named Sara who went through my information with me - but she couldn't do anything because I didn't know the answer to my challenge question. She didn't give me an email address or fax number, though - she gave me a ticket number, told me it would be escalated, and that someone would call me within 72 hours. It's been 24 hours, I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm being patient :) |
Got my password back in two days...
Thanks Alex for the info and numbers! After discovering some lowlife had changed my password, I got on it immediately and following Alex's instructions, I got my password back in two days...FAST! :)
|
I finally got my yahoo ID back as well after all this time. Took about 3 months going back and forth with Yahoo. I just had to provide them on the fax with all the info I had about my account (folders, chat names, info on account) and they eventually asked me for my alternate email that they could send the password since my later alt email website stopped business. So now I finally have my account back!

Well, I put in a ticket with Yahoo for this - they told me I would hear from someone within 72 hours. After 72 hours, I called them back, gave them the ticket #, and said 'I still haven't heard from anyone', and they said 'we're backlogged, we'll get to you in the order your ticket was opened'. It's now been 7 days since I was told THAT. So I don't know what to do at this point, I'm frustrated as heck, and I AM a paying customer. Sigh. I just want my account back. I have the credit card # it's paid with. I have the statement it was paid ON in April. There's no question that it's MINE. |

You also have to remember the huge size of Yahoo and the people that use it that are having these issues among many others as well. Just keep at them as I did and you have to eventually grab ahold of your account again esp with your evidence. |
I JUST got my account back today.
They called me at about 16:30 EST, confirmed my name, address, and phone #. Because it is a paid account, they asked for the last 8 digits of the credit card - I had all of that readily available (and that CC# is memorized, so I had NO problem with THAT one! :) ) And that was all they needed. They entered my alternate email address into the account, set me up a new secret word that I WILL remember!! emailed me a new password, and it's all mine again. Finally. 3 weeks, exactly. Almost to the minute. No question that this being a paid account made a HUGE difference. |
The sad part is, you are a paying customer and it took three weeks to get in touch with you. I can understand taking that long or more if it is a free user, but a paid user? Crazy.

No question, it's ridiculous. The funny thing was, I was on hold waiting for support to register yet ANOTHER complaint on my house phone when they called me on the cell phone. My next step was going to be to call and speak to customer service about cancelling the account and getting a refund - to see if that would spur something. It's probably what I should've done to begin with. Generally customer retention can get through the call center ticket mess. |

Hi all
This may help prevent some people from having there accounts hacked. Never click on links put up in chatrooms they could be stinger programmes which then give access to your yahoo accounts also make your password as long as u can and put numbers in it this does help ! I have also found the yahoo help chatrooms very useful and people very helpful in giving advice on getting your accounts back and making your computer safer. Also you can search online for the STINGER removal tool which will tell you if you have been keylogged. I hope this is a help :o |
curious....
When you faxed your info to the yahoo security, did you feel uneasy about sending a copy of your license? They have told me I need to do the same thing that you did and I didn't know how "safe" it was. Also, how did they get in contact with you if you were able to get the account back?
IF anyone HASN"T been able to get it back did they let you know that as well or just leave you without knowing? |
Yahoo Customer Service is HORRIBLE
I recently had my yahoo messenger and email account "phished" and now what a mess it has created!! When I created my account back in 1999, I must have not put in the correct birthdate. So, customer service refuses to offer any kind of assistance. When I requested to speak to a supervisor, the agent laughed and stated they were going to "transfer me" to someone in charge. I was placed on hold for 25 minutes. I called back and requested a supervisor only to be "transferred" to eternal hold for 38 minutes!!
I read a reply on this site advising how a person was able to regain access to his account. After 7 attempts of talking to customer service and 6 emails back and forth to Yahoo Account Security, I have yet to receive any help. If someone can offer some insight as to what I should do next, I am totally open for suggestions. I have my address book, personal folders, photos etc etc in my email account that I really need. Please Help!! |
Got my account back too
Since this forum was helpful in my getting phone numbers for Yahoo!, I thought I would post my experience here.
I received an email from Yahoo! stating I had violated their terms of service. The email wasn't specific about how or where I had done so, and suggested I may not have updated my profile recently. The email contained a link to a site called cc.yahoo-inc.com . I attempted to follow the link (Mozilla, so I don't fear malware) and due to a DNS issue (unknown at the time) the site did not resolve. I concluded this was a phishing expedition, and deleted the email. 2 days later, my Yahoo! account gets pulled. ALL of it. Fantasy Football, email, personals, the works. I emailed Customer Support a couple of times, then tried them on the phone. I couldn't find a good option in the voice menu tree so I decided to talk to their Personals staff (I was a paying member of that service). They were unable to do anything more than stop me from being further billed for the service. This was a Friday night. The following Monday, I had received 0 response to my requests for information about HOW I had violated TOS - my email password change requests had begun to say my account had been pulled, and the Personals folks had said it was a Terms of Service violation, unknown what kind. So, I started dialing again. 2 hours and 5-6 transfers later, I had it figured out. Back in 2000/2001 I had a GeoCities page set up to forward to my new domain - didn't want to lose any loyal readers, you know. Apparently, sometime in the last 5 years Yahoo! and GeoCities decided this would become a Terms of Service violation, and instead of just pulling the GeoCities page, they nuked the entire account. 3 emails to GeoCities customer support later, I had 3 bounce errors in my Inbox - invalid addresses! Nice, huh? Well, a couple days later I finally got my service restored. They reactivated my account, leaving the GeoCities pages alone. I went in and nuked them as fast as I could and so far, my Yahoo! account is still there. I don't know if it was the phone calls, or the 2-3 emails per day I was sending them, as I never received a written explanation of what happened. So, it IS possible to get your account back, but let persistence be your watchword. M.O. http://www.madocowain.com http://www.playmaille.com |

That is more similar to My experience and I had my account "phished" about a year ago now. They didnt have any fax number for me to send anything to them when I was dealing with them - and that sucks that it seems to be they are letting others get their accounts back. Seems grossly Unfair. especially when I can easily provide them with all of that kinda info. Folders, Other ID's - it's fucking riddiculous if you'll excuse my french. After about 3 months, i gave up and had been using another ID which was recently De-activated, and it tells me I violated the TOS - but doesnt tell me What TOS i violated. I am currently on hold, waiting to speak with Sara's boss about this problem - (i believe it's the same Sara who helped out the other guy) - again, I think it's Bullshit. Something must be done! |
