Default Yahoo "improvements" (i.e. unread mail op)

RE: Yahoo "improvements" (i.e. unread mail op)
I'm not one to use air-quotes (or the typed equivalent), but I think they're only appropriate here.
Yahoo made "improvements" to their services not too long ago.
The only one I noticed was an expansion of mailbox space, which actually made suckers like myself who pay $19.95/year feel like, well, suckers.
I happen to have a number of free Yahoo accounts from olden times when my paid account began to burst at the seams with all the gynormous files I wanted to keep, so I sent them to alternate addresses. Now I'm trying to consolidate and close accounts, but in the back of my mind lurks the fear that my main one will be wiped out if I somehow don't receive/pay the bill, or for no apparent reason.
Anyway, my big beef with the new Yahoo is this:
Why have they eliminated the check UNREAD MAIL only option?
At some point I tried to contact the company regarding this but - as most of you who've arrived at this forum know - there doesn't seem to be any way to contact Yahoo Customer Service via E-mail: I recall being sent to a FAQ site which was of no help. Don't most businesses allow you to submit an inquiry if the FAQ fails to address your issue?
That an E-mail service doesn't provide this option is a crock of crap.
I think the billing department had an E-mail contact and I believe I sent them my question RE: the lost convenience of checking unread mail (asking that they forward my message to the proper division) but I received no response.
Then I sent an actual letter to some street address I found for Yahoo but, again, no response.
Thanks to whoever posted the phone # (1-408-349-1572) for Yahoo customer service. Apparently they're on the west coast and close at 6PM PST.
You'd think they'd spring for a toll-free number, especially for dim-wits like me who pay for their services.
Anyway, I'm going to call at noon EST later today. I'll keep y'all posted ...
