Yahoo ID stolen
My yahoo password got changed, they changed the info so that I couldn't get it back via the web or from my first phone call to yahoo. What sucks is I know who did it. I'm waiting for yahoo to call me back since thier first tier CS couldn't help me. I was told they do log the IP address of the person who changes passwords so I'm hoping I can get this person arrested. I know thier first name, age, what they look like, where they might work and a general idea of where they live. Yahoo said I need a supenia(sp) to get the IP address of the person who did this, so now I'm wondering what branch of law enforcement can I go to, to report this person for Identity Theft. I've had this account since 1999 and have many personal and finacial info in it.
Any advice from yall would be helpful, thanks |

This really is very very aggravating!!!! I lost my account on August 3rd, 2005. I didn't know it until the next time I signed in. Yahoo customer service were of very little help. They kept telling me that none of my info matched up and that my secret answer was not valid and that it was basically my fault that this happened to me! I have personal history and financial info in it too!!! I too have had it since 1999!!! I created another Yahoo account, to monitor my old account and TODAY September 24, 2005 I saw someone had sign in under my account! This is terrifying! Yahoo preaches about it's security yet I feel so unsecure about my account with them. I even asked if they would just cancel it if I couldn't have it back and that didn't happen either! |

New News
I still don't have my account back yet, some specialist is supposed to call me to try further verification. I do have my hopes up tho because I realised I used one of my credit cards recently for Yahoo Personals, and the CSR i talked to this mornin said the specialist should be able to use that to verify me and get my account back. To my dismay I also realised how the person got my ID and password, they had sent me a link in YIM to this, http://www.geocities.com/my_pics36/ DO NOT ENTER YOUR ID AND PASSWORD AT THAT LINK I realise now that is a false login and sends ur id and password to whoever made the page. I've reported that link and the person who sent it to me, to the CSR. Once I get my account back and secured I'll have to make a decision. I know the person who did this, I know thier yahoo id, i know thier first name, I know what they look like and have gotten the phone # of the place they list as thier work. With that, I also have a cousin who knows plenty of quality hackers. I know I will try and call this person's boss and get her fired, but I hope I can keep myself from going any further since it wouldn't be hard to find where they live.
I'm gonna keep the evil inside me balled up for now, I'm workin towards pharmacy school and I know I won't get in with an arrest record lol. |

I *just* got hit with the same Phish last week, and unfortunately had to let it go for a week because I was going to New Orleans, and was incommunicado. I did email this morning the friend whose account sent it to me to let him know - and someone told me my account sent the phish out today.
I have too much stuff in that account to lose What I HOPE will help is that none of my personal information apparently has changed - they verified my name & birthdate just fine. I just can't remember the answer to my challenge question (that WILL change once I get back in!) and the phisher deleted my alternate email, so that screws me up a little. One thing I *really* hope I have going in my favor to prove who I am is that my Yahoo account is a *paid* account, not a free one. I have a copy of the credit card statement showing the payment date & reference number for when my account renewed, and I'm hoping that'll be enough to get everything back. A heartfelt thank you to the members of this forum, I was completely frustrated and hadn't even realized I was phished - I have spent the last 3 days since I've been home trying to find a damn service support number. They're supposed to call me back within 72 hours to discuss my case and hopefully get me back in - I'll let you know what happens. |

Two days in a row!!!
This has happened to me as well but now it is two days in a row! Tuesday evening I came home and couldn't get into my Yahoo email. I contacted customer care on Wednesday and finally got through all the questions and got a new password emailed to me. This worked and I got into my email! I immediately went in and changed my password to a brand new one and updated my personal info since I recently moved and the info I supplied to customer care had to be from my old address. My mail and other Yahoo services worked all day Wednesday until.... Wednesday night. The same thing. I can't get into mail again. I tried to contact customer care again (408-349-1572) and gave them the information that I changed everything to yesterday and nothing works! My old zip code and every zip I've used in the last ten years won't work. They've all been changed and I don't know what they are so they can't help me at all. I've sent email to security (account-security-help@cc.yahoo-inc.com) and got an automated response saying they will contact me in the next few days. I have run out of options and don't know what to do except wait and see what happens. I am completely frustrated by this whole experience and will start looking for a new email provider even though I've had this account since 1998 and even pay for their "premium services".
